- to land at Rome-Fiumicino Airport, and to continue for Assisi with bus or train or rented car; the rented car solution is recommended, second choice is the Bus
- to land at Milano-Malpensa Airport and connect to the Alitalia/Air-Alps flight for Perugia (the small Umbria Airport, also known as Sant'Egidio Airport, is only few kilometers from the town of Assisi, but htere are not bus connection with the town).  You can save money if you use Alitalia or one of the Skyteam associated airlines for your complete trip.
The Umbria Airport Aeroporto Internazionale dell’Umbria Perugia (Sant' Egidio) , is placed at a few km from Assisi and is connected daily to the main European airports via Malpensa Airport (Milano). In summer a daily flight is also operational from the Fiumicino (Roma) Airport
For further information visit the Alitalia and Umbria Airport web sites (arrival - departures).
Ryanair operates a service from/to London Stansted (www.ryanair.com), and seasonal connections a few other European cities are available.

There is a Rome Fiumicino Airport (International Flights Terminal "C", Tourist bus external parking) to Assisi (S. - Train -  There are two main railway lines: For those arriving from North (via Florence), change at Terontola and take the Terontola-Perugia-Assisi-Foligno line. If arriving from the Adriatic coast or from Rome: take the Ancona-Foligno-Assisi-Perugia train and change at Foligno for the Foligno-Assisi-Perugia-Terontola line. Assisi World Heritage.  Assisi represents an ensemble of masterpieces of human creative genius, such as the Basilica of San Francesco, which have made it a fundamental reference for art history in Europe and in the world. The interchange of artistic and spiritual message of the Franciscan Order has significantly contributed to developments in art and architecture in the world.  Assisi represents a unique example of continuity of a city-sanctuary within its environmental setting from its Umbrian-Roman and medieval origins to the present, represented in the cultural landscape, the religious ensembles, systems of communication, and traditional land-use. Being the birthplace of the Franciscan Order, Assisi has from the Middle Ages been closely associated with the cult and diffusion of the Franciscan movement in the world, focusing on the universal message of peace and tolerance even to other religions or beliefs.

San Francesco d'Assisi is the National Patron of Italy.

Assisi has the following sister cities: San Francisco (USA), Santiago de Compostela (Spain), and Bethlehem (Palestine).

Assisi was added to Unesco's World Heritage List in 2000.

Assisi is known worldwide as "the town for Peace". Assisi hold the Decalogue for Peace in the World,  the International Center for Peace, the International Conference of Representatives of the World Religions, and the annual March for Peace.
