This is the first announcement of the First International Conference on Particle and Fundamental Physics in Space (SpacePart), to be held at
La Biodola, Isola d'Elba, Italy
May 14th - 19th, 2002
This Conference is devoted to review the experimental status of Astroparticle Research in Space together with the related Theoretical aspects. The Conference is sponsored by the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN), the Universities of Pisa, Perugia and Siena, the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI).
The program will include sessions on Search for AntiMatter, Search for Dark
Matter, Cosmic Rays Composition, Gamma Astrophysics, Neutrino Physics, Gravitation
and Fundamental Physics, Space Detectors and Technologies, Interdisciplinary
Space Physics.
The Conference will be organized as a series of plenary half-day sessions, each
addressing one or more specific topics of interest. A detailed preliminary program
will be forwarded to participants with bulletin n. 2.
Attendance will be by invitation only and will be limited to about 150 physicists. Participants are expected to attend the Conference for its full duration. Invited colleagues willing to participate should carefully fill in the Registration Form and return it not later than March 31st, 2002.
Contributions to the Conference will be either talks or posters. Part of the
time will be devoted to invited reviews of important topics. Additional contributions
will be included on a time available basis. The average allocated time for presentations
is expected to be 20 min. The final decision will be made by the Organizers.
The International Advisory Committee and the Organizers will notify the authors
of the acceptance or rejection of their contributions in due time.
Physicists interested in contributing to the scientific program are invited
to fill in the proper section in the Registration Form.
Contributors to the Conference, for talks and poster as well, are requested
to submit a brief abstract (preferably in LaTeX format via e-mail), 120 words
or 15 lines maximum length, not later than March 31st, 2002, in order to distribute
participants the whole collection.
All contributing authors are expected to prepare a manuscript, following the
prescriptions of Nuclear Physics B, to be included in the Proceedings and submit
it upon arrival at the reception desk. An electronic version of the manuscript
is also requested.
There will be two daily sessions, from 8.30 to 12.30 a.m. and from 4.30 to 7.30 p.m.
This fee includes cost of proceedings, bus transportation from Rome or Pisa
Airport to the hotels and viceversa, Ferry tickets, coffee breaks, conference
gala dinner, etc. The requested amount is 350 €.
The Conference hall and the hotels are located in La Biodola area. La Biodola
is a beautiful little bay on Elba Island. Elba is the biggest island of the
Tuscan Archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea and is a major holiday resort, famous
for its natural beauties, its history and its vineyards. The island is located
10-km offshore, about 80 km south of Pisa and about 250 km north of Rome.
Participants sharing a double room or with family will be accomodated, unless
otherwise requested, in two seaside first class Hotels, the Hotel Hermitage
(HH) and the Hotel Biodola (HB), located very close to each other in an isolated
area approximately 10 Km from Portoferraio. The Conference hall is located in
the Hotel Hermitage site. Only a few single rooms are available at the Hermitage
and Biodola Hotels.
Notice that lunch for all participants will be served at the Hotel Hermitage.

The above fees include full board accommodation, from Tuesday May 14th dinner
to Sunday May 19th breakfast, social activities, excursions, full use of the
hotel sport facilities, etc.
This beautiful and comfortable accommodation at reasonable cost has a counterpart:
participants, as already said, are expected to attend the meeting for its full
duration; no reduction of cost for people staying only part-time is foreseen.
People planning to stay longer should inform the Organizing Committee.
Conference and accommodation fees can be paid at the registration desk upon arrival. All major currencies will be accepted, as well as EC, traveler or personal cheques. However, no credit cards can be accepted by the Organizing Committee.
